The M4 Sherman was the primary American medium tank of World War II. Produced between 1942 and 1945, it became the most recognizable American tank. During the war, it developed spectacularly. It was equipped with a 75 mm gun. The ammunition and flammable engine initially made the Sherman an easy target for heavier German tanks. Only after the construction was refined could the roles be reversed. In total, approximately 49,000 of all versions of the Sherman were produced. The tank was used by, among others, the armies of the USA, Great Britain, Poland, France, and the USSR. It had a reputation for being a reliable, easy-to-manufacture, and well-armed tank.
