The Supermarine Spitfire Mk. XVI Bubbletop was a variant of the legendary British Spitfire fighter aircraft used during World War II. The Mk. XVI was a modification introduced in 1944, featuring a spherical (bubbletop) cockpit. It significantly improved pilot visibility. The aircraft reached a high top speed of approximately 676 km/h (420 mph). Armament included two 20 mm (0.79 in) machine guns and four 7.7 mm (0.31 in) machine guns. The Spitfire Mk. XVI was primarily used as an escort and reconnaissance fighter, taking part in operations on several war fronts. Its improvements, particularly in performance and visibility, made it an effective means of aerial combat by the end of World War II.
